Saratoga N.Y. Track summer

As one of the most historic horse racing tracks in the United States, Saratoga has been the go-to destination for both casual and professional horse racing enthusiasts for over 150 years. Located in upstate New York, the Saratoga Race Course offers a unique racing experience through its well-manicured grounds, unparalleled history, and classic ambiance. I grew up locally and love the nostalgia every time I visit. I wanted to share a detailed experience.

Saratoga Springs is a popular summer destination known for its stunning natural beauty, rich history, and abundance of outdoor activities. The city is located in upstate New York and is easily accessible by car, train, or plane. During the summer months, Saratoga Springs comes alive with a variety of events and activities. Downtown is bustling with high end shops and coffee houses. Multiple hotels and airbnb's cater to the influx of visitors all excited for Track season. Visitors can enjoy the Saratoga Race Course, which is one of the oldest and most prestigious horse racing tracks in the country. There are also numerous music and arts festivals, like at SPAC (Saratoga performing arts centre) outdoor concerts, and theater performances. Nature enthusiasts will appreciate the many opportunities for hiking, fishing, and kayaking in the surrounding Adirondack Mountains. We never miss a visit to the springs themselves. The Saratoga Spa State Park is also a beautiful spot to relax and enjoy the natural surroundings.

For those interested in history and culture, there are several museums and historic sites to visit in Saratoga Springs, including the National Museum of Racing and Hall of Fame, a big hit with my son and husband who are enthusiasts. The Saratoga National Historical Park, and the Saratoga Performing Arts Center are places I frequented growing up and attended numerous concerts.

The Saratoga horse racing track is the oldest still-operating horse racing track in the country, with its roots dating back to the 1860s. The track has been home to legendary races like the Travers Stakes, the Alabama Stakes, and the Whitney Stakes, with many of the world's most famous thoroughbreds racing here.

The racing season in Saratoga typically runs from late July to early September, with racing held from Wednesday through Sunday each week. The ambiance is classy, yet relaxed, with a family-friendly atmosphere that's perfect for people of all ages. Fans can enjoy top-quality food, drinks, and an ample selection of retail vendors that offer unique Saratoga-themed souvenirs. The track also offers ample seating options, including grandstand seats, picnic benches, and premium boxes. Finding a place to stay can be tricky so book months in advance and be prepared have a great time!

The unique oval shape of the track spans for 1 mile and is made of a turf course and a main dirt track. The track's aesthetic is classic, featuring a backdrop of trees and lush greenery. Another feature that separates Saratoga from other tracks is the use of a vintage bell to signal the horses before and after each race.
